Openings:

Meeting called to order at 7:30 pm.

Minutes:  Phil Finger

Bill Roe moved that July’s minutes be approved and it was seconded by Tony Robinson.  Motion passed.

Financial Report:  Bill Roe

Club Northwest is very healthy financially at the moment.  It has a financial balance of $35,911.37, with no significant expenses until cross country in the Fall.

Northwest Runner Report:  Martin Rudow

Brooks will return to  running advertisements in NW Runner in September.  There is another great magazine issue coming up with Lauren Matthews as the NW Runner of the month.  The magazine will switch to glossy page stock in December and the price of the magazine will increase (meaning the bottom line to CNW will decrease).

Team:  Chuck Bartlett

The Sundodger cross country meet is a month away.  The men’s cross country team is strong.  Some of the women on the women’s team will be wearing the same orange singlets that the men are wearing, which makes them easier to spot during the race.  The orange stands out and makes a strong impression in the race.  The women’s team is getting better and is considering having workouts on Tuesday nights.

Membership:  Brian Oster and Bill Roe.

Club membership rates will be increasing at the beginning of 2007.  Rate increases will be a topic of discussion at forthcoming Board meetings.  The increase in NW Runner magazine subscription cost will be factored in.

Events:  Brian Oster and Bill Roe

The last 2006 All Comers track meeting is coming up this Wednesday, August 16th and it will be a retro meet with Imperial distances, heights and measurements.  Future fees for All Comers meets will probably have to be increased to meet expenses, and we have a plan in genesis to increased total income to cover hiring more officials.

New Business:

  1. There was some discussion of going to a paid Head Team Manager with four volunteer sport managers to spread some of the load so the Head Team Manager doesn’t become overwhelmed.

  1. Brian has started contractual discussions with Road Runner Sports for renewal of our sponsorship of the Firecracker 5000, Resolution Run and All Comers meets to bring in $25,000.00.  There will be an event added to the deal, as Road Runner Sports desires a limited involvement with All-Comers below the level of presenting.

  1. Giving kids a “Personal Best Passport” was discussed and a prototype passed around.  It would encourage kids to keep track of and focus on their personal bests in events instead of who won a particular event.  This would also be a good emphasis for parents.  The participant ribbons that T.P. purchased for the kids remain very popular.

The move to adjourn was made by Tony Robinson and seconded by Tony Young.  The meeting adjourned at 8:45 pm.

The next Club Northwest Board meetings will be on September 11th and October 9th.
