MEMBERSHIP NEWS AND NOTES... • We had some web site issues over the last month or so. We hope the rejuvenated web site is all better now, and serving your needs. Let us know what we can do to make it better!
• We are beginning our Sunday runs soon -- watch the web site for more details. Over 300 people have hit that page on the website so far, so we know there's interest out there!
• Make sure your membership is current if you plan to use any of the discounts mentioned below! You can renew on PayPal, download our paper form, or through the Northwest Runner magazine. Write me if you have any questions.
EVENT NOTES...
ALL-COMERS SERIES The all-comers are off to a slow start this year -- compared to last year -- with iffy (if not downright miserable) weather for the first three weeks. But we are still ahead of the pace for entries for every year EXCEPT last year, so things are moving along! We might get a (sun) break tonight, but I'm not counting on it. Whether you come to run, walk, jump, or throw, or to help, or a bit of both, we hope to see all members and their families there! Remember the big discounts
EMERALD CITY OPEN This Saturday at King's High School is the second Emerald City Open and PNTF Junior and Senior Track & Field meet. The events begin about 2 p.m., and the afternoon will be very nice, according to the current forecasts. Check the PNTF web site for more details. CNW members compete in the meet FREE is they pre-register. Day of meet rates apply for everyone.
ROCK 'N ROLL Martin Rudow of Club Northwest's Northwest Runner has secured a booth space for the Rock 'n Roll Seattle Marathon / Half-marathon EXPO, and -- due to the expected crowd -- he could use some assistance. The EXPO is next Thursday, June 24, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday, June 25, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Attached is a spreadsheet for people to use to sign up with Martin.
FIRECRACKER 5000
First of all, the hot news you've been waiting for -- the FIRECRACKER 5000 member discount code: F5kC4th It is case-sensitive. Now, let's explain the process for the newbies:
During the Firecracker 5000 registration process at www.getmeregistered.com, you are asked for this code to obtain the member discount. Once you plug it in and complete your registration, a message is sent to CNW that you have registered. At that point, we check your membership status. If there are any questions, we will write you using the e-mail address you provide during registration. Please do not share the code with those who do not have a current membership or use it for family members if you are an individual member. It's a good idea for family members to let me know in advance who in the family will be registering, especially if varied last names are used.
Registrations are up for 2010, so we expect a large crowd. We want everyone to come to the Seattle Center, to not-long-for-this-world Memorial Stadium (they plan to tear it down in few years), and take part, either as a participant in or as a volunteer for this unique event. If the latter is your choice, write me back and let me know.
We also need a Northwest Runner / Club Northwest booth person for Firecracker. It's a fun position, talking about the magazine and the Club with race participants, and handing out brochures from the racks. Sign up for that with me as well.
SUBWAY WASHINGTON GAMES We are hosting three of the four Subway Washington Games events this year. We passed the masters meet off to the Seattle Masters Classic, and will help where necessary. The four Subway Washington Games events -- with complete details on their web site at www.washingtongames.org -- are: Sat., July 17 Magnuson Series Subway Washington Games Runs, 10 a.m., Magnuson Park waterfront promenade Sat., July 17 Seattle Masters Classic (35-over), 9 a.m., West Seattle Stadium Wed., July 21 CNW All-Comers (34-down), 5:30 p.m., Shoreline District Stadium Sat., July 24 Cross Country, including HS East-West Senior Classic, 10 a.m., Magnuson Park waterfront promenade
TEAMS Our long-time vice president for teams, Shelley Neal, has been hired as the new cross country coach at West Seattle High School! So Si-Wash's (the school nickname) gain is our loss, as Shelley has retired from the Board. A new vice president for teams will be selected at our July 12 meeting . We encourage our team members to come and give input to the process and selection.
Our team is gearing up for the National Track & Field Club Championships, scheduled for San Francisco State University on Friday-Saturday, July 9-10. If you are interested in participating, Becca Peter is putting together the teams.

We are relying on Chuck and Becca to get current information on our many team members competing in the busy summer months up on the web site. Visit our web site often to get the latest news. Just last Friday, Rose Wetzel, the hottest roaddie running right now, won Fremont to add to her hardware collection. Tonite, Rose will go for a USATF 10k standard at the end of the all-comers meet -- good luck, Rose!
