2011 CLUB NATIONAL CROSS COUNTRY AWARDED TO CNW AND PNTF!
We found out on Wednesday, September 16, and announced to our Board and PNTF on Sunday, September 20, that we have been awarded one of USATF's biggest national championship events, the 2011 National Club Cross Country Championships, set for Saturday, December 10, 2011. The site is planned for Jefferson Park Golf Course on Beacon Hill. A Community 4k, Kids 1k and 400m, and four national championship races -- masters women 6k, masters men 10k, open women 6k, and open men 10k -- will be contested. Our first Local Organizing Committee meeting was held to get started. Contact me if you are interested in helping, and let me know what you'd like to do! No prior experience necessary!

MAGNUSON SERIES CONTINUES

We have a great series started, and each race gets better. Race #3, with a slightly different starting line, and a new kid's course, had a few more participants than race #2, even with a very congested Magnuson Park and a late (4pm) start time. Check out the attachment below for future dates, and join us in costume for Halloween!

WINTER GRAND PRIX APPROACHES

This is "first call" for the 14th Annual Winter Grand Prix Series brought to you by Super Jock 'n Jill and New Balance, and presented by Club Northwest with assistance from Nathan Hale HS. Dates for 2009-2010 are December 5 (cross country 3k), December 19 (road 2-mile, just before the Magnuson Series 5k/10k), January 9 (cross country 3k alumni day), January 23 (road 2-mile prediction time), February 6 (track 2-mile at Nathan Hale HS), and February 20 (road finale using our staggered start). Information will be up on the SJJ and CNW websites soon, and registration will begin in mid-November at SJJ.

CHAPTERS FORMING
Great interest in local groups with more intensive training sessions and coaching opportunities, plus localized kids and all-comers programs, have prompted two chapters to get very near reality -- hopefully very shortly! The Skyline Running group in Shoreline, near the home of our summer all-comers series, is already underway under the guidance of our Magnuson Park series director Tahoma Khalsa. See the attachment below. The other immediate group is centered in Olympia / Lacey, where many outstanding CNW members live and already train together. The potential there exists to have the new track at Saint Martin's University host an all-comers series similar to our Shoreline series. Contact about that opportunity will be forthcoming shortly!

CROSS COUNTRY SEASON
Our team season is open to any member! The top runners -- open and masters -- will select themselves in three meets -- the Saturday, October 10 WWU Invitational (6k women, 10k men), the Saturday, October 24 Eastside Runners Invite (5k), and the CNW-hosted PNTF Championships on Sunday, November 8 (10k men, 6k women). For entry information and more details, contact cross country team manager Chuck Bartlett. After those three races, points will be tallied to determine our top runners, and those individuals will be assisted in getting to Lexington, Kentucky, for Club Nationals on Saturday, December 12.

MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS
Your Northwest Runner label has the month and year of your subscription and membership expiration on the mailing label. You may renew through the Northwest Runner when they send their renewal mailing. Or you may renew on-line at the CNW website. We want to achieve a much higher level of membership retention, so let us know what we are not doing that you expected from your membership!

UPCOMING MEETINGS
The next two Board meetings will be held Monday, October 12, and Monday, November 9, both at 6:30 p.m. social hour and 7:30 p.m. business meeting. Anyone is welcome to come, but we'd like some advance notice and an idea of your pizza preference if you plan to attend!
