ANNUAL MEETING NOTICE AND BOARD ELECTIONS

This is your second notice of the Annual Meeting of CNW.  It is Monday, March 14, 2011, at the CNW Offices, with the social hour beginning at 6 p.m. and the business meeting starting at 7 p.m.  Elections will be held for three board seats.  After that election, the nine elected Board members will meet to determine any and all at-large one-year positions on the Board, and then the elected and at-large members will meet to determine the officers for 2011-12.  If you plan to attend the Annual Meeting, please RSVP to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it so that we have enough snacks and beverages available.

Current elected board members are:

1       Nick Fleming       (Term expires 3/2011)

2       Saul Kinderis      (Term expires 3/2011)

3       Bill Roe                (Term expires 3/2011)

         4       (vacant)                (Term expires 3/2012)

         5       John O’Hearn     (Term expires 3/2012)

6       Tony Robinson   (Term expires 3/2012)

7       Tony Young        (Term expires 3/2013)

8       Ed Haywood       (Term expires 3/2013)

9       Kimery Hern        (Term expires 3/2013)

So we will be electing four board members, positions 1, 2, and 3 for three-year terms, and position 4 for a 1-year term.

Current at-large board members, all with one-year terms expiring 3/2011, are:

David Cannon, Vanessa Hunter, Ed Ledger, Shawn Lucas, Lauren Grossbard-Matthews, David White-Espin, Carl Winter, and Jerry Zyskowski.

If you are interested in running for a Board position, please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it prior to the meeting so that he can inform you of the role and responsibilities of a Board member, check your current membership status, and prepare the ballots.  You stand a much better chance of being elected if you are on the ballot (the recent Alaska senate race not withstanding!)

SUNDAY RUNS

Our membership committee has been conducting Sunday runs.  Recent runs have had as many as 25 participants, thanks to the excellent and timely notices sent out by Lauren Grossbard-Matthews!  Runs begin at 9 a.m. on Sunday mornings from different places and sponsored by a different Club member.  Explore the area with the group, and meet your fellow Club members.  For a schedule of the Sunday morning runs, check our website or sign up for the e-mail notices

LAST WEEKEND IN ALBUQUERQUE

Two Club Northwest athletes recently traveled to Albuquerque, New Mexico to compete at the USA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, February 26.

Competing in his first USATF National Championship, Levi Keller placed fourth in the men's pole vault with a jump of 5.30m (17-4 1/2).  Levi is married to fellow Club NW athlete Lois Ricardi Keller, a distance runner.  Levi and Lois moved to Seattle from Pocatello, Idaho, last fall.

50-year-old Daphne Sluys of Bellingham was invited to compete in the Masters Women's 60 Meter Dash Exhibition, where she placed second with a time of 8.87 seconds.

UPCOMING TEAM EVENTS

This weekend several Club Northwest athletes will compete at the final local indoor meet of the season, the UW Final Qualifier in the Dempsey Center at the University of Washington.

Club Northwest will open its outdoor season with the Spring Break Open Track & Field Meet on Saturday, March 26 at the University of Washington. This will be one of the final track meets held at Husky Stadium, as the remodeling project will remove the track.

Club Northwest has been invited to participate as a full team in the Ralph Vernacchia Team Track & Field Meet at Civic Field Stadium in Bellingham on Friday, April 8.  The Friday date may keep some folks away, but the schedule is late afternoon and early evening, so take a half-day and make the drive to Bellingham!  We are the first club team to be welcomed into the school team event!

TEE-SHIRTS

We are catching up after being out of tee-shirts for quite a while, and going through a transition period without a membership manager.  Tahoma Khalsa (WWU ’08) is our new manager, and we have a tee-shirt order in process.  If you have not received a communication from our membership group and are owed a tee-shirt, simply contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. MANAGING YOUR MEMBERSHIP

Your Northwest Runner mailing label carries the expiration date for your membership.  Sometimes we adjust it -- for example, when you renew a membership early, we add a full 12 months to your existing membership.  Or if you "upgrade" from a Northwest Runner subscription, we tack on the membership to the end of the subscription period (within reason!)  Or if for some reason we do not get your membership logged in immediately, we end your membership later to pick up the lag time.  It helps us if you react to your reminders -- generally mailed out from the Northwest Runner office -- in a timely manner.  You won't lose membership months or issues of the magazine if you renew early!
