SPRING BREAK OPEN RESULTS

We had a very successful 22nd Annual Spring Break Open Meet on Saturday, March 26, despite some very wet weather.  It was a good way to kick off the short final season of track & field at Husky Stadium, which loses its track during the upcoming renovation.  Complete results are on our web site.

The meet was hosted by the UW, co-hosted by Seattle University, and presented by Club Northwest.  We were all assisted by Pro-Motion Events, PNTFOA, and Western Washington University.

Our total entries (counting only actual participants) was 472, our third-best ever.  Many thanks to Kenny Emerick, Pee Wee Halsell, Brandi Petz, Jacob Lesser, Rex Philpott, Jan Kavadas, Thomas Juguera, Karl Meller, Stan Chraminski, Scott McCoy, Brian Oster, Carole and Bob Langenbach, Andy and Geof Newing, Mick Holt, and the entire SU Track & Field Team, led by coaches Trisha Steidl and Aaron Hansen.

ANNUAL MEETING BOARD ELECTIONS

Elections were held for three full-term board seats and one one-year vacancy at the Annual Meeting on Monday, March 14. As a result of those elections, current elected board members are:

2       Saul Kinderis            (Term expires 3/2014)

3       Bill Roe                      (Term expires 3/2014)

8       Ed Haywood             (Term expires 3/2013)

9       Kimery Hern              (Term expires 3/2013)

After that election, the nine elected Board members met to determine any and all at-large one-year positions on the Board.  The appointments included:

David Cannon, Nick Fleming (moved from position 1), Vanessa Hunter, Ed Ledger, Lauren Grossbard-Matthews, Kevin Murphy (new), David White-Espin, and Carl Winter.

Finally, the full board determined the officer positions, which are reflected in the directory above.  Over 20 members attended the meeting.

MANAGING YOUR MEMBERSHIP

Your Northwest Runner mailing label carries the expiration date for your membership.  Sometimes we adjust it -- for example, when you renew a membership early, we add a full 12 months to your existing membership.  Or if you "upgrade" from a Northwest Runner subscription, we tack on the membership to the end of the subscription period (within reason!)  Or if for some reason we do not get your membership logged in immediately, we end your membership later to pick up the lag time.  It helps us if you react to your reminders -- generally mailed out from the Northwest Runner office -- in a timely manner.  You won't lose membership months or issues of the magazine if you renew early!

Magnuson Series...

After our largest winter race ever with over 200 participants in January, despite the chilly day, we topped the 325 mark in February – an all-time series participation total for any time of year!  While March was down a bit, it was over 200 for the third straight month, and the weather was great!  The series continues to grow, appealing to people who want to be able to have a common "test" once a month, in a low-key, relaxed atmosphere.  The current information on the series is on the series web site.  Remember, your CNW membership gets you a discount for all Magnuson Series events! if you are registering on line the coupon code is cnw11.

1st Annual CNW Picnic In The Park...

A date has been picked: Saturday Aug. 13th from noon to 3pm. The event will be after the Magnuson Series so there is a running option before hand. We will be providing a bbq pit, buns, and condiments, so choose your grillings and come. The location is at Magnuson Park to the right of the boat house.
