About
Destry Johnson fell in love with running when his naïve father said “sure, we can run Bloomsday. How hard can it be?” Destry was 11 years old and, unknowingly, made his father work very hard in that race! This led to junior high and high school track and cross racing and a scholarship to Pacific Lutheran University. Destry raced for PLU from 1993-1997 making two trips to the NAIA national championships in both track (5k/10k) and cross country. The highlight of that time period was assisting with a 3rd place cross country team placement at the NAIA National Championships in 1996 behind Lubbock Christian and Life College, two teams dominated by African athletes. Post collegiately Destry continued running and racing first unattached, then for Team XO where he nearly qualified for the 2008 Olympic Marathon Trials. When Team XO disbanded in 2009 Destry joined Seattle Running Club, placing highly at various events including three-time Champion of the Seattle Torchlight 8k. Currently Destry is running for Club NW and hopes to help the Master’s team place well late this year at the USATF National Cross Country Championships.
