About
I started running with my dad, longtime CNW member Phil Welch, when I was 10 years old and shortly after with the Rain City Flyers youth track team. In high school, I helped my team qualify for the 3A State Championship and ran the 3,200m at the state meet the following spring. I ran cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track at Tufts University, where I ran competed twice at the national level in XC and track and later coached our distance program for three years during graduate school.
Since moving home to Seattle in 2013, I’ve continued to go after my college PRs and, in 2015, ran the second-fastest 5000m of my life. A glimmer of hope. I’ve raced five times at the USATF Club XC Nationals. After continuing to go after college PRs, I debuted in the marathon in 2017 and hope to challenge the 2:20 barrier over the next several years.
My wife Ana ran at Saratoga Springs High School and Tufts, where we met, and is an elementary school teacher in Seattle. We live in the U District.
